Sunset in Stanley Park
Saturday, February 27, 2016There's no better place in the city to catch the birth and death of the light of day than Stanley Park.
Took a breather and went for a jog from English Bay to Stanley Park but I had to stop and appreciate the infinite beauty that was the sun. It was still high up when I started, but it came down [with all its glory] halfway through my jog.
Then it started to get dark. The sky turned from blue, to gold, to auburn, to a fusion of crimson and violet, to indigo, then finally to black. That's when the city lights from both downtown and the North shore started to sparkle.
The Lion's Gate Bridge was lit in jade from underneath as busy headlights went to and from both sides. The water and the paths remain out of site.
A few meters before reaching the bridge, it creeped me out to find lit candles and bouquets of flowers along the road. My theory is that someone must have died there, but before I jumped to that conclusion, somehow the hair on my nape stood on end and I instinctively sprinted even if I was already tired. A reminder though, if you decide to run, or walk, or jog through the sea wall, you have to finish it all the way. There's no way to go but forward (or all the way back).
When I reached my end point, it was pitch black and I was debating silently whether turning my flashlight on was a good idea. So I did [not]. I went home quite satisfied of how the day turned out.
Can't wait for winter to end!
